Challange
An app that insults people on purpose still needs rules.
Funny and cruel are close neighbours. A roast generator has to be sharp without being generic, work without asking anyone to sign up, and keep its AI key off the user's device, all while being upfront that the output is meant to sting.
Goal
Make roasting a one-step, no-account experience that is clearly a joke.
Let anyone drop in a photo, add an optional line of context, and get a roast back in seconds, with the content warnings and safeguards a public app like this needs.
Solution
A simple flow, with the AI work kept on the server.
A React, Vite and TypeScript front end styled with Tailwind talks to a small Node and Express API. The API accepts the photo and optional description, sends them to an OpenAI-compatible model server-side, and returns the roast, so the key never reaches the browser. There is no account to create. The project documents its content warning and recommends moderation and rate limits for public use.
